"It seemed to me that the cylindrical well to the left of the house had as great a role to play as the receding clouds. I knew from the first moment I saw this isolated house that I would be photographing it. The impulse to do so may have come from the simple wish to own it. But there was more and although the blue shuttered windows attracted me, it was also the two vertical rectangles of shadow joined by a diagonal. The joyful sky appealed hugely and I left the scene thinking how sensible this building was and how I would no doubt find it entirely suitable for me if I were to take ownership of it. The following day I flew home remaining envious of the owner."
