This 135 foot K-class yacht is the largest of the William Fife designs still afloat. In 1927 Cambria was re-rigged as a ketch for her new owners who cruised much of the world. By 1994 she was found lying idle in Townsville, northern Australia by Prime Minister Paul Keating, whose enthusiasm for her design and history prompted Keating and a group of friends to purchase Cambria and undertake her restoration. A massive project was begun in Brisbane. Some of her hull planks, of Honduras mahogany, had to be replaced, all planking splined, some steel frames replaced and others needed to be reconditioned.  Cambria's teak deck was replaced and her entire hull re-fasted with 6000 stainless steel bolts.  Finally, in order to compete in the classic yacht circuit she had to be converted from her current ketch rig back to her original sloop rig.  Cambria's mast is now the original 154' high mast while the spruce mizzen was removed to become the new boom.
