The Bosham Gallery Archive was set up in 2016 to preserve and restore historic photographs of Chichester Harbour with the aim of hosting a series of exhibitions and talks that would bring alive some of the most exciting passages of the harbour's history since the advent of photography in 1840 - namely the harbour's oysters, wooden boat building, and merchant trading.
The gallery specialise in the scanning and restoration of particularly precious or vulnerable photographs of the harbour. Very high resolution scans are made of slides, prints, negatives, medium and large format film, and the photographs are then digitally restored so that they are preserved for future generations
We offer an exhibition space in the heart of old Bosham's historic waterfront and in 2018 we will be displaying the photographs in a series of exciting public exhibitions along with a collection of themed albums on permanent display.
The Bosham Gallery Archive is a collaborative project with West Sussex Record Office (WSRO) in Chichester. The Bosham Gallery runs the digital archive and donates all hard copies of photographs, either acquired or donated, to the WSRO.
