"There has never been a time in my life where I have not admired and become emotionally attached to a 10 foot sapling as much as a 100 foot tree. I think of its potential and even in its adolescence still feel that the tree is a noble being. I think of the great Richard Mabey quote "Trees are the architectural climax of evolution; the longest living organisms on earth and even in their depleted ranks still provide the world's largest engine for converting the sun's energy into living tissue." The sky played a key role for me here as the nondescript cloudy lower part gave way to a triumphant blue as if to confirm the sapling's importance. The smattering of freckled amber leaves against the sky seemed to be just right."
