"I was compelled to photograph what struck me as being reminiscent of a ship's bow and at the same time, the structure had a peculiar 'theatre set' quality. The story for me was one of parallels and diagonals. The yellow roof jutted into the blue expanse perfectly. The lamppost was neatly parallel to the maroon band at the front of the building along with all its corners and the numerous slats and green shuttered windows. There needed to be a hint of animation to offset the potential sterility of the building and when all else was aligned, the perfect candidate arrived on cue in the form of a seagull flying in to join his mate who awaited him just on the roof 's corner and perfectly lit on the shadow's edge. Had the trajectory of his arrival been a mere one metre lower, his shadow would have missed the wall."
