"The title, from a quote by the writer, L.M. Montgomery, sums up with elegance and precision exactly what it is about the woodland environment that appeals to me so intensely. Such great diversity; so much life is there. So much movement, so many contrasts, so many sounds - a forest is rich with complexity and mystery. A hundred voices at least. My intention is not to seek out perfection - polite lines of trees hold little appeal. Clean, uncluttered woodland floors can certainly be found but I would rather try to make sense of tangle and confusion. The lower branches in this crowd of mature pine trees provided a slightly disordered backdrop while rays of sunlight danced around the forest floor. On the outer edges - or is it below the surface? - floats the evidence of incipient growth - tiny florets cast loose from their moorings, carelessly wafting around, trying to decide where their best chance of propagation might lie."
