"One of the most impressive sights in classic sailing is when two boats cross: one on starboard the other on port. If one of the yachts puts in a quick tack it can happen very quickly so you have to keep your wits about you and be prepared. You get a feel for it as it's all about the tacking battle and the distance the yachts are from each other on the race course. The obvious shot is to be behind the yacht on port tack as she will have to give way "dipping" the yacht on starboard. On this particular day in Argenatrio in Italy I was lucky enough to be on board Mariquita as Cambria loomed up on our leeward side. The crew member on deck is down there to keep an eye and act as a spotter for the helmsman and tactician. I was positioned in the companionway or "dog house" which is a brilliant place to photograph from. Right in the heart of the boat but a safe haven to photograph from. Luckily I had my 24 -70mm mid range zoom to hand and Cambria slid into frame. Perfect."
