I really like this quote as it gets to the heart or the truth of what makes a good image. With marine photography I think there's a lot of good fortune involved especially out on the water where everything is so transitory. Obviously you have to have your equipment ready and a plan, but I've taken tens of thousands of marine images and plenty of them have little merit. Sometimes it's just chance: a small manoeuvre on board the yacht, a change in the lighting and it's done. You might not even realise it at the time. Photography is a mystery and sometimes fortune just shines on you as it did on me and the sails of Mariquita that day.
