"I first visited Bosham in the summer of 2019, in conjunction with an exhibition at the Bosham Gallery, and was enchanted by the place. I walked to the harbour and immediately planned when I could be out there with my cameras. It was recently suggested to me that if I had copyrighted, perhaps forty years ago, the 'Sticks in the Water School of Photography' I might now be rich and famous. Alas, no such luck, and I mention this with all due massive levity. However, looking back in my career in photography I have had a proclivity to focus on structures and geometric remnants left in landscapes and seascapes. I claim no singularity in that regard. In my own print collection, for example, I have some wonderful images of Whitby Harbour by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, made in the Victorian era, many, many years before I was but a twinkle in my mother's eyes. Seasides have held a fascination for me since my childhood days and I was delightfully surprised to discover the Bosham harbour and creek. In the short amount of time available, I worked as much as I could and am very happy with the three prints that I have made so far. I think a visit to photograph in the depths of winter would now be interesting for me. This is how I like to photograph - by forming a relationship with a particular location and then returning to deepen the conversation. The Bosham area has vast potential for creativity. I just can't understand why I seem to be the last person to find out..." Michael Kenna, 2020
