Velsheda (JK7) is one of only ten J-Class yachts. Launched in 1933, the 131-foot Velsheda represented the latest in rig and sail design. She won more than 40 races in her second season. In 1996, Velsheda was taken to Southampton where she was fitted with the tallest one-piece carbon mast in the world. She was relaunched in 1997. In 1999, a new era of J Class sailing began when Shamrock V, Velsheda and Endeavour competed in the Antigua Classics Regatta. Endeavour (JK4) is one of only ten J-Class yachts. A 130-foot sloop launched in 1934, Endeavour pioneered the development of the Quadrilateral genoa. In 1984 Endeavour was a complete wreck in southern England when yachtswoman Elizabeth Meyer undertook a rebuild. Endeavour sailed again in 1989. In 2001 on the Solent between England and the Isle of Wight, the three surviving J Class yachts raced again in the America's Cup Jubilee, where this photograph was taken.
