"I wondered when I was here if a Moroccan landscape photographer would stop to photograph this street. Was I taken by these series of shapes and colours simply because they were unfamiliar. Might a Moroccan photographer have found the high street of my local town as intriguing as I found his? There were just the remnants of two narrow shadows that performed the important role of lifting the flatness and introducing a three dimensional suggestion. I wonder if somewhere far away in my subconscious I recollected the work of Mark Rothko but couldn't be sure. We are all so susceptible to influence and perhaps I was simply re-interpreting a Rothko work that I could barely remember."
